In case you don't know...Scrapbook Challenges is a fun group filled with wonderful people. We have weekly sketches and challenges. There are monthly sponsors for the group with fabulous prizes to win. I just know if you give it a try, you will love it there as much as I do. I am looking forward to the new things we have in store for this next term, including more *well-known* guest designers (can't wait to share our May GDT with you), new classes (with new teachers), and the new Gallery Gems section. But how about we start with our new DT! I find each and every one of them totally inspiring, and you will get to meet them all today! Sadly, we are also saying goodbye to some wonderful people, but they are only leaving the DT...they will still be around in the group. :)

Today, every blog you hop to will have a layout that they made that is based on this sketch created by yours truly:

Age

What is it about age that evokes such strong feelings and fears? I don't mind getting older...maybe I won't feel like that forever though. I want to know your thoughts. But I don't want to just hear them :P I want to see them! I want to see layouts that talk about age. It's for my next article. Here's the official call:

Great Age. Thoughts on how you feel at one age or another? Finding this year to be a bigger milestone than you anticipated? We are looking for layouts that focus on you at your age.

Never submitted before to ScrapStreet? That's ok! It really is the best online magazine around! I have been regularly submitting long before I became part of the team. Check out the rest of the calls too, you can find them here.

Deadline is midnight April 29th for all calls.
Please send your work to submissions@scrapstreet.com.

Here's a layout that I made for the April BAP challenge at Prima.

I really love the way this layout turned out, but I like the way it looks in person way better then the above picture. So, I took a lot of close up's to help you see the layout better. :) Here they are...

That heart was cut out of a transparency. I glimmer misted it and then poured UTEE on top of it and heat embossed it. Some of it did bubble a bit, but I think it just adds to the look. :)

Notice that it is an age layout. :)

Pretty much everything is from Prima.

Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday! :)

Scrap and Stamp Saturday and Debossing Technique

Hi everyone! First...don't forget about my giveaway in the post below this, or click here. :) The challenge at Scrap and Stamp is up! The challenge this week is a fun one, and it may be new to some of you so I encourage you to give it a try! The challenge is to use debossing on your layout. Are you saying "What's that?" Well, I am glad you asked...let me walk you through it. :)

Start with a piece of paper a little bigger then whatever stamp you want to use. I chose to use a die cut that I cut with my Slice. Other supplies you need:

  • stamp
  • embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • Versamark pad, or some kind of embossing or craft pad.

1. Ink your die cut/piece of paper with your embossing pad.

2. Make sure you have a scratch piece of paper behind your die cut, then pour embossing powder over the whole thing. You want to make sure the whole area is covered, so don't be afraid to pour a lot, you will not lose any--you can just pour it back in the container.

3. Lift your piece of paper up. It may be helpful to use a tool to slide under it. Then lightly tap excess powder off and set aside. If it doesn't look perfect, don't worry you won't be able to tell after adding several layers.

4. Pour your excess powder back into your container.

5. Using your heat gun, heat emboss your piece. I usually hold the heat gun about 2-3 inches away from what I am embossing. Smaller pieces of paper are harder to work with. I recommend when embossing it with your heat gun that you hold the gun directly above the cardstock, and not at an angle...this will keep it from moving all over the place while you are trying to heat it. You can also use a tool to hold it in place, but remember to not use your fingers, it gets very hot.

6. Let it cool for a minute and then start again. Using your embossing pad, cover your piece again.

7. Poor on your embossing powder.

8. Heat.

9. Repeat this process several more times. If you use Ultra Thick embossing powder, then it may not need as many layers. I just used regular embossing powder and I embossed 5 times. I usually emboss 5-6 times when doing this technique.

10. Immediately after your last emboss, while enamel is still hot, stamp your image in it.

There you have it! If it didn't turn out how you wanted...no worries, just add another layer of embossing powder and melt it all together and try again. :)

Here's the layout I created:

Our sponsor this week at Scrap and Stamp is GCD Studios and they sent us papers to work with. They also have a prize up for grabs for doing this challenge. You can see the prize on the Scrap and Stamp blog. The stamps I used are from Unity Stamp Company. And I added all those gorgeous flowers and pearls from Prima. :)

Hope you join us for the challenge this week!

Have an awesome Saturday!

"Just Add Butter" cont. (and giveaway)

Well it's gloomy and rainy here. It was yesterday too. I don't mind it, in fact I kinda like this weather, but it does make it harder to get good pictures of my projects.

I have more to share with you using the "Just Add Butter" line from My Little Shoebox:

This next one is a wooden dress that I altered, from Say it with Letters...

Ok, and now it's your turn to play with the "Just Add Butter" line. One lucky person will win it just by leaving me a comment on this post. Here's the whole line:

So leave a comment from now until Monday on this post. I will draw a winner and announce it on Tuesday. :)

And I wanted to give a special shout out to Love My Tapes who has sponsored the MLS design team! You know I am a sucker for a good adhesive runner, and their's is fantastic! THANK YOU!!!

Have an awesome Friday!
