in my opinion, is totally played out. Don't get me wrong...I still love them, but I'm also tired of them. So when I was supposed to use hexagons and masking for a blog post for The ScrapCake I knew I had to change it up a little. :) So using my Cameo, I made hexagons that were taller and different than the normal stop sign hexagons we've been seeing everywhere.
Here's my layout:
I used the FABULOUS Sweet Childhood collection from The ScrapCake.
Here's how my masking technique played in to my layout....
I created the mask with my Cameo (the negative portion of the cardstock with my hexagons). Then I added several mediums including ink, chalk, and paint, so it looked like this before I lifted my mask off:
Then I covered a bunch of my hexagons up with hexagons of patterned paper, as well as kraft cardstock. Using the hexagons of the same color as the background create a much more subtle look but still add a lot of texture and character.
Here's my close up's of the layout:
Thanks so much for stopping in today!
So weigh in--hexagons...still hot or getting old?

I have yet to make anything with a hexagon and still love them so I hope they're not gone too soon. This is great! So involved! You really went to a lot of trouble on this one.
Dear, why didn't you tell me you were fed up with hexagons? We could have used any other shape LOL Love you! And love your LO too! It was a pleasure to share a post with you :-)
love it! studio calico is changing the traditional hexagon just a bit and i liked it! great layout
I haven't gotten on the hexagon wagon.I'm always late. I love your page they do add a cool factor.
I really haven't used hexagons at all. I like the look, but it does get old when you see it on project after project. The way you changed up the shape and design is very creative and looks great!
I've done a couple of things with hexagons but it isn't something I want to do a lot of. I'd say it is getting old.
that looks really great!
I still like hexagons, but I really love your spin on using them. The layout is great!
I still like them! And very cute layout!
it's funny 'cos the issue challenge this week over on Club CK is to do a LO with hexagons!! I too am using my Cameo to hopefully come up with a different take on this aging trend. I have to admit I still like it somewhat!
great LO! thanks for the inspiration!
Your take on the hexagons is wonderful!
I'm still loving hexagons, but I've only used them on one layout. :) Love your take on them!
you blow me away~awesome use of Hex'
s!!!!
Love the tall skinny hexagons Pamela, and the masking technique is awesome!! Really great effect on your page!
Loving how you made your hexagons a little different!!! Beautiful lo!!
I like what you did with the hexagons here. To be honest, I've never cared for the trend. I have some hex pp's, I used them a few times, and wasn't blown away by them.
I like your slightly different shapes, fun and what a fun layout too!
This is a fabulous layout. Very creative and gorgeous.
Terrific page! I still like hexies, but I haven't had the chance to really explore them yet!
I still love hexagons, but only because I came onto them late, LOL. I've only done one layout with them, and would like to another. I have a nice patterned paper that I want to use with them! :) GREAT layout!
Really cool twist on the hexagons! Love the way you did the masking.
I've only done one page with hexagons, and I really love the way you look, so I'll probably do a couple more. I like to try new things I see people doing, but I'm not one to care about what's trendy, so I'll probably do my next hexagon layout when the trend is totally gone!
I am still loving the hexagons. But I don't jump on a trend right away. Guess it's easier for me not to get sick of it that way! I love this technique and love how you manipulated the shape to get your own version. It turned out great! :)
Yep - I hear ya on the hexagon thing...
LOVE what you did here!!!
I love all things geometric: hexagons, octagons, etc. I like how you used the hexagon with different length sides. Great inspiration; thanks for sharing.
